Windward
The side of the boat (or course) the wind is coming from.
Windward is the side of the boat — or the side of the racecourse — that the wind is coming from. The opposite of leeward. Sailors say 'go windward' or 'sail to windward' to mean upwind. In right-of-way rules, the windward boat must keep clear of the leeward boat when both are on the same tack.
